As people perform the core operations at Thome, we put a high priority on routinely monitoring work-related hazards and risks. Therefore, we have strict safety guidelines in place that our employees must adhere to.
Thome’s Safety Management System (“TMS”) includes stringent safety guidelines for every task performed onboard that go above and beyond industrial recommendations. The TMS covers the following key safety aspects:
- Risk Assessment
- Permit to work system
- Office Concurrence for Critical Jobs
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Matrix
As part of our growing efforts to raise safety standards in FY2021, Thome has introduced the following initiatives:
Virtual seafarers’ webinars
Thome’s Annual Seafarers’ Conference for 2021 was organised across 4 countries, where seafarers are engaged through open floor Q&A sessions and group discussions, to exchange ideas and share best practices. Talks on selected operational topics were also conducted, with seafarers given a chance to lead the group discussions. The conference is also part of Thome’s efforts to show appreciation and gratitude for their seafarers who have gone through challenging times (i.e., the COVID-19 pandemic).
Thome has partnered with International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN), to provide a free, confidential 24/7 helpline manned by specially trained counselors for both Thome employees and the families of their seafarers.

To ensure the safety and wellness of our crews, Thome partnered with CIRM Servizi to provide 24-hour telemedical service with priority case handling aboard Thome fleet vessels, and develop LiveWell@Sea program that focuses on the social, physical, and mental health of the crew as a whole.
