Thome Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing Cybersecurity Capabilities Amongst Maritime Companies in Singapore

On April 5, 2022, as an integral part of the Singapore Maritime Week, Thome Group joined the Maritime Cybersecurity Round Table, composed of seven leading maritime companies in Singapore.

As part of the program, Thome Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing Cybersecurity Capabilities Amongst Maritime Companies in Singapore facilitated by the  and other notable companies. Representing Thome Group is Executive Vice Chairman Claes Eek Thorstensen.

The Maritime Cybersecurity Round Table aims to address the issue of Cybersecurity in the shipping industry – which is lagging, especially in smaller maritime companies.

The MPA and the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) believe it is best to address this issue through a tripartite collaboration between government agencies, trade associations, and industry. The MPA brings to the Round Table resources and relevant policies, while the SSA brings to the Round Table maritime cybersecurity domain knowledge. The shipping companies aim to bring the Round Table industry domain knowledge.

The Round Table brings together non-technical senior representatives of reputable local maritime companies. It is a deliberate effort to signal to the maritime companies that Cybersecurity is not reserved for IT professionals but a commercial issue. The round table members provide advice and comments from a commercial point of view. They give their support to the initiatives put up.

Thome Group is happy to be part of the Singapore Maritime Week happening until April 8, 2022, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore.
